Many hands

in Gold Country

“Many hands make light work.” – John Heywood

Another pretty amazing thing this Spring in the Gold Country, is the construction of a double Kingdom Hall in Sonora, California.  The lot they had to build on made things something of a challenge, but challenge has never been something that has stopped us.  This is two Kingdom Halls, one stacked on top of the other, and built on a lot that is basically a hill.  So, these two halls are kind of like a split-level house.  One sister has a great photoset on Flickr that shows progress on getting the slab in, and the block wall constructed as well as the parking lot readied starting around November 2008 (her pics) – for the big push this spring.  Once that stuff was out of the way, the project flew into high gear getting things almost completed by March 2009.

Did I mention the bulk of the work is done on the weekends when everybody’s got time away from their “day jobs”?

We went by on Saturday and snapped a few pictures from a lot above the project.  This shows them finishing the stone work on the upper level.

(This will get bigger if you click on it.)

There were people everywhere working on getting things wrapped up.

I notice the color coat on the hall was not there the day before (when I was looking at the other set linked above).  She’s got some great shots of all the volunteers out there doing just about any trade they had going.

You can see trees waiting to get planted in the landscape.  That will all be completely finished (might be done, for all I know, we were there Saturday and they had Sunday to work on it too) by the time they hold their first meetings here.

So, springtime 2009 has lots of new beginnings up here in the foothills.  Some are just here for a little while, others will be around for years to come.
